WCCN is pleased to announce that Capital for Communities Fund Notes are now available online through MicroPlace.com. This technology allows for investments in the Capital for Communities Fund as small as $20. Interest rates range between 2% and 5%, and terms vary by Note.

This new offering is an exciting development in WCCN’s microfinance work. It will not only enable more people to participate, but and allow WCCN to better meet the demand for capital among the working poor.

In accordance with securities laws, Capital for Communities Fund Notes are currently available via Microplace.com in the following states: AK, CA, CT, DC, FL, HI, IA, ID, IL, KS, MA, MD, ME, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NY, OH, OR, RI, SD, TX, UT, VT, WA, WV, WY.

What is MicroPlace?

The mission of MicroPlace is “To help alleviate global poverty by enabling everyday people to make investments in the world’s working poor.” MicroPlace seeks to connect people in the United States with microfinance institutions around the world that are looking for funds. Their objective is to raise capital for these institutions so they can expand and reach more borrowers. Because of the similarity between Microplace and WCCN’s missions, we believe that as partners, we can be even more effective.

Capital for Communities Fund Notes through WCCN's traditional method

The Capital for Communities Fund has nearly 400 investors throughout North America that invest through our traditional method. This method allows investors to pick the length and term of their investments and are coordinated through WCCN's central office in Madison, WI.

About 85% of our traditional-method investors are individuals; churches, local activist organizations and small foundations make up the remaining 15%. This is a diverse range of persons; what they share in common is a commitment to socially responsible investment and just economic development.

Our investors lend anywhere from $1,000 to $300,000. The median traditional method investment is $5,000. Below are the parameters for traditional method investments:

  • Loan Amount: $1,000 minimum
  • Loan Length: 2 to 5 years
  • Interest Rate: Between 0%-6% annual simple interest, depending on the length of time and amount of investment

Interest is paid annually and the maturity is paid in full on the day the investment reaches maturity. In ten years of this work, WCCN has maintained 100% repayment to its investors, always on time. Donations

In addition to investments, donations enable the Capital for Communities Fund to expand while maintaining an adequate reserve to protect investors in the event that the fund should experience unexpected financial losses.
