In 1992, WCCN began channeling money from North American investors
to alternative credit programs in Nicaragua. This endeavor became
formalized as the Nicaraguan Credit Alternatives
Fund (NICA Fund), which today is one of WCCN's main projects. Currently, the NICA Fund has over $9.2 million in loans outstanding to its 15 partner
agencies - microfinance institutions and cooperatives - that specialize in offering microcredit
and other financial services. Over 16,000 low-income Nicaraguan borrowers are accessing microcredit from the NICA Fund through its partner agencies.
Overall these borrowers have a repayment rate of more
than 95%, and the partner agencies have a 100% repayment rate on
loans they have received from the NICA Fund.
Following is a listing of the NICA Fund's partner agencies. To learn more about each agency, simply click on its name.
