2008 Internship Opportunities at the Wisconsin Coordinating Council on Nicaragua (WCCN)

WCCN interns work in a productive capacity while furthering knowledge and skills in the field of international development. Internships are uncompensated and require onsite commitment. Internship terms are offered Summer, Fall and Spring.

WCCN facilitates and encourages interns to participate in our study tours to Nicaragua (in January or June) as a way to have a first hand experience and take full advantage of their internships.

2008 Internship term schedule

Spring 2008: February 18 - May 9, applications due February 11
Summer 2008: May 26 - August 8, applications due May 9
Fall 2008: September 8 – December 12, applications due August 29

Time commitment: 10 – 15 hours per week

Internship Positions Currently Available:

Research Associate (One position available)

The Research Associate collaborates on current research projects WCCN is undertaking. Research Associates responsibilities include writing research papers on a specific topic selected by WCCN. Exceptional research papers will be published electronically by WCCN, and will be translated to Spanish.

* Current research topics: Women’s access to land and domestic violence
* Nicaraguan women’s movement
* Microfinance and women
* How the microfinance industry in Nicaragua compares with that of other Latin American countries

Operations Associate (One position available)

The Operations Associate facilitates decision making for loan fund activities. Responsibilities of the Operations Associate include research and evaluation of partner Microfinance Institutions using quantitative analysis, data management, and financial modeling and forecasting. The Operations Associate may also handle investor correspondence and records maintenance, as well as legal compliance work.

Marketing Associate (One position available)

The Marketing Associate promotes WCCN and its projects by creating and editing copy for promotional materials, facilitating awareness raising initiatives, and assisting in the coordination of events and outreach. The Marketing Associate may also collaborate in grant-writing, updating WCCN's website, and preparing press information.
